How to prepare for your first dermal filler appointment

Booking your first dermal filler appointment is exciting! Whether you’re looking to enhance your lips, restore volume to your cheeks, or contour your jawline, proper preparation is key to ensuring the best possible results and minimizing side effects like bruising and swelling.

Here is your pre-treatment checklist from the experts at Be Env Wellness & Aesthetics in Pembroke Pines.

1 Week Before Your Appointment

  • Avoid Blood Thinners: Stop taking over-the-counter blood-thinning medications such as Aspirin, Ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin), and Naproxen. (Always consult your primary care physician before stopping any prescribed medications).
  • Pause Certain Supplements: Avoid supplements known to increase bruising, including Fish Oil, Vitamin E, Ginkgo Biloba, Garlic, Ginseng, and St. John’s Wort.
  • Start Arnica (Optional): Many clients find that taking Arnica Montana supplements a few days prior to treatment helps reduce post-injection bruising and swelling.

24-48 Hours Before Your Appointment

  • No Alcohol: Avoid drinking alcohol for at least 24 hours before your injections, as it acts as a blood thinner and increases the risk of bruising.
  • Hydrate: Drink plenty of water. Hyaluronic acid fillers (like Juvederm and Versa) bind to water in your skin, so being well-hydrated can actually enhance your results.
  • Reschedule if Sick: If you have an active cold sore, a skin infection in the treatment area, or are feeling unwell, please call us to reschedule.

The Day of Your Appointment

  • Arrive with a Clean Face: If possible, come to your appointment without makeup. We will thoroughly cleanse and sanitize the treatment area anyway, but starting with a clean canvas is helpful.
  • Eat a Light Meal: Don’t come on an empty stomach to avoid feeling lightheaded.
  • Relax: You are in expert hands! Our Nurse Practitioner, Novia Markes, will apply a topical numbing cream to ensure your comfort throughout the procedure.

Proper preparation makes a significant difference in your recovery time. If you have any questions before your appointment, don’t hesitate to contact our Pembroke Pines clinic.
